About Mazda Protege

Being also marketed prominently as the Mazda Familia and Mazda 323, Mazda Protege was built by a prominent Japanese multinational automobile manufacturer Mazda Motor Corporation, commonly referred to as simply Mazda, between 1990 and 2003 as a small family car. Originally introduced as a model in the sixth-generation Mazda Familia (BG), Protege was also known as the replacement for the Mazda 323 sedan in the North American market. After being available for about three generations covering fourteen years old, the production of the Protege was ended and it was replaced by the Mazda 3.
The second-generation Mazda Protege (BH) was produced from 1994 to 1998 and debut in North America for the 1994 model year when the Familia was in its seventh generation. It was offered in only one body style, 4-door sedan but came in three trim levels, Base (SE/DX), 4WD and top-line LX. In 1996, the Protege also received a facelift with a newer somewhat more aggressive style. During this generation, Mazda Protege was powered by a 2.0 L inline 4-cylinder engine rated at 144 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque and power was sent through 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels. The more recent Protege (BJ) was introduced on 29 September 1998 as a 1999 model. It came in DX, LX and ES trim levels back then and introduced the limited-edition Protege MP3 featuring a new sport-tuned suspension, 17-inch Racing Hart wheels as well as a Protege5. Mazda Protege got power from a 2.0 L I4 producing 130 hp and 135 lb-ft of torque or an updated 2.0 L turbocharged I4 on Protege MP3 good for 170 hp and 160 pound-feet of torque. And the transmission choices remained the same.
